Luiz Vaz de Camões, born in 1524, is being honoured on the 500th anniversary of his birth. His influence on Portuguese literature, with works such as Os Lusíadas and Rimas , is highlighted. The poet’s uncertain biography, between banishment and travel, shaped his work. The Mint issued a commemorative coin, designed by José Aurélio, featuring Camões‘ face and coat of arms on the reverse.
