surrounded by the legend
Minted in name of the strategos Tiberius Klaudius Hagnios. Originally, a strategos (army leader) was used in Greek to mean military general. In the Hellenistic world and the Eastern Roman Empire the term was also used to describe a military governor. Demeter was the Olympian goddess of agriculture, grain and bread who sustained mankind with the earths rich bounty. Demeter was depicted as a mature woman, often wearing a crown and bearing sheafs of wheat, corn-ears or a cornucopia (horn of plenty), and a torch. The frequency with which Demeter (Kore), or her symbols, appears on the coins of Kyzikos, both in Greek and Roman times, indicates that she played an important role for the city and was worshiped there. Only 2 specimens listed in RPC Staatliche Museen in Berlin Inv. No. 18264317 and A. Tricarico collection. This is probably the 3rd known example of this coin type. This example is superior to the other two known examples and is by far the finest example known of this coin type. Extremely rare. BMC| SNG. von Aulock| SNG.CopenhagenSNG.München-
