rev. Bull butting left, right foreleg raised, lashing his tail, IMP XII in exergue More personal to Augustus himself is the theory that what we see here is a reference to the famous butting bull type seen on the coinage of Thurium. Born Caius Octavius Thurinus in celebration of his fathers victory in battle against a Spartacist army, which took place outside the town, this reverse type would be a personal allegory to Augustus and the high regard in which his family was held by the townspeople of Thurium.
Magnificent depiction of the bull of Thurium.
